The Myanmar Laphet Festival, jointly organized by the Myanmar Cultural Heritage Trust and the Myanmar Tea Cultivation, Production, Export, and Sellers Association, was successfully held from 11 to 14 February at Seinn Lann So Pyay Garden.
The festival aimed to highlight the cultural significance of laphet, a traditional tea leaf salad widely enjoyed across Myanmar. As a product combining the country’s highlands and plains, laphet reflects Myanmar’s diverse cultural landscape. The shared enjoyment of laphet, often accompanied by social gatherings, plays an important role in fostering peace and social cohesion. During the festival, vendors and laphet associations from across the country presented and sold a wide variety of laphet, along with assortments of traditional fritters typically served as accompaniments.
Designated areas also featured a range of ethnic cuisines available for tasting and purchase, offering visitors an opportunity to experience Myanmar’s rich culinary traditions. The event brought together people from diverse backgrounds, including younger generations, contributing to ongoing efforts to safeguard and transmit the laphet tradition as an important element of Myanmar’s intangible cultural heritage.
